"For the peacekeeping operation (in Gaza Strip) ... Indonesia is ready to send its peacekeeping forces under the UN mandate. I emphasize, under UN mandate," she underlined after a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday.
The minister made the statement in response to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto's remarks that Indonesia is ready to send peacekeeping forces and medical personnel to operate field hospitals in the Gaza Strip, if needed.
Marsudi said that the foreign ministry is currently coordinating with the relevant parties for the prospective peacekeeping mission in Gaza as well as the proposed evacuation of one thousand Palestinians requiring medical care to Indonesia.
"While the concrete form of the assistance is decided by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, the Foreign Ministry and related ministries are also involved (in this operation). Everything is under coordination," she said.
Speaking at the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on June 1, 2024, Defense Minister Subianto said that Indonesia is prepared to contribute peacekeeping forces to maintain and monitor the prospective ceasefire in Gaza as well as provide protection and security to all parties and all sides.
Indonesia's readiness to contribute peacekeeping forces highlights its commitment to maintain peace in Gaza and realize a long-lasting ceasefire between the conflicting sides, he added.
He also revealed that President Joko Widodo has instructed him to evacuate, admit, and provide medical care to one thousand patients from Palestine in the immediate future.
At the international forum, the minister called upon all parties to collaborate to realize a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire and long-lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.
Indonesia also understands the need to resolve the conflict, which has dragged on for decades without any concrete solutions, he added.
