Head of the Indonesian National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Police Commissioner General Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel, stated that the implementation of the resolution requires the Australian Federal Police's (AFP) support.
"Indonesia needs the AFP's support to implement the resolution," Dahniel remarked during his visit to Australia on Thursday, as quoted in a statement on Friday.
He said that the resolution was proposed as BNPT's initiative for Indonesia's membership in the 2024–2026 CCPCJ. This aims to encourage a global commitment to end violence and protect children as a long-term strategy for fighting terrorism.
As a follow-up, his agency called for a meeting of the Intergovernmental Expert Group (IEG) to discuss guidelines for handling children associated with terrorism. The meeting is scheduled for early next year.
The resolution proposed by Indonesia regarding the handling of children associated with terrorist groups was adopted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna on May 17.
The resolution includes three approaches: preventing children from violence carried out by terrorist groups, conducting rehabilitation and reintegration of children associated with terrorist groups, and ensuring justice for children.
According to Dahniel, this resolution is a form of Indonesia's concern for children associated with terrorist groups and is a concrete implementation of achieving its mission as a member of the CCPCJ for the 2024–2026 period regarding child protection.
He affirmed that Indonesia is also committed to encouraging international cooperation in the alleviation of terrorism. The country will play an active and leadership role in encouraging international cooperation to prevent and control transnational organized crimes, including terrorism.
