Twenty-one of the 58 cattle were sent to mosques in Jayapura City while 37 others were distributed to mosques in the districts of Keerom, Jayapura, Kepulauan Yapen, Waropen, Nabire, Biak, Sarmi, and Supiori.
Speaking to journalists here Sunday, Fakhiri said the Qurbani animals were distributed to the mosques thanks to the Papua Police's collaboration with the local Interfaith Communication Forum (FKUB).
Qurbani is the religious sacrifice of cattle, goats, or sheep that is made after the Eid al-Adha prayers to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice of his beloved son for Allah's sake.
Meanwhile in Jakarta, as of Sunday, the Istiqlal Grand Mosque has received at least 44 Qurbani animals from Muslim communities, the mosque's spokesperson Ismail Cawidu said.
The mosque has also received a Simmental cow from President Joko Widodo and a Limousin cow from Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
He added that the Simmental cow's weight is recorded at about 1,192 kilograms while the Limousin cattle's weight reaches around 1,164 kilograms.
