In the 2024 TTDI released by the World Economic Forum, Indonesia ranks 22nd globally, a significant jump from the 32nd place it had secured in the 2021 TTDI.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's success in propelling its score in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) will potentially attract more business actors to place their capital in the country, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated.

"Investors are currently monitoring Indonesia's position. Indonesia now ranks above Belgium, New Zealand, and Turkey (in the TTDI). This exceeds expectations," he remarked at an event celebrating Indonesia's TTDI improvement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In the 2024 TTDI released by the World Economic Forum, Indonesia ranks 22nd globally, a significant jump from the 32nd place it had secured in the 2021 TTDI.

Meanwhile, Belgium ranked 23rd, New Zealand stood 25th, and Turkey was placed in the 29th position in the latest TTDI ranking.

"The inflow of investment will surely increase. God willing, we will also witness an increase in the number of workers employed in the tourism sector and the value of economic impacts," he stated.

In his speech, he also outlined Indonesia's five key tourism pillars according to the TTDI report, with two of them being the prioritization of tourism and travel (T&T) and the sustainability of T&T demand.

Furthermore, the country's tourism is supported by pillars related to natural resources, socio-economic impacts, and cultural resources.

"In terms of socio-economic impacts, the contribution of our tourism sector to the GDP (gross domestic product) has hit four percent. Moreover, the sector has empowered around 25 million workers," he remarked.

Despite the positive trend, Uno drew attention to the need for Indonesia to pay closer attention to pillars related to health and sanitation, tourism service and infrastructure, readiness of information and communication technology, openness to T&T, and human resources, job market, and environmental sustainability.
