Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI), National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), and a company were awarded for the most simultaneous contraceptive implant insertions in women by the National Record Museum (MURI).

Director for MURI's operations, Yusuf Ngadri, stated that the award was bestowed in recognition of the efforts by the IBI, BKKBN, and Health Ministry in forging collaboration to go far and beyond pursuing the government's target for family planning services.

During the 73rd Anniversary of IBI, hosted by IBI here on Monday, Ngadri highlighted that the implants were placed in some 117,910 women across 34 provinces.

"Which means it goes beyond the initial target of 110,877, or 6.34 percent," he remarked.

Ngadri affirmed that midwives are the strategic partners of the BKKBN and Health Ministry in the efforts to suppress maternal mortality, infant mortality, and stunting rates.

Moreover, they support women by assisting them during childbirth, rallying for them, and giving them advice during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.

"Midwives, as responsible professionals, conduct their duty as family planners with accountability by offering assistance and counseling on women's health reproductive organs in a bid to improve the mom and child's welfare and control birth and population," he explained.

According to Ngadri, these efforts aim to create prosperous families that live within their means. He noted that optimizing the use of contraceptives, both through injection or oral means, is one of the several methods to achieve the goal.

Head of IBI's Central Board, Ade Jubaedah, stated that although it was not their main goal, the award from MURI is proof of their dedication and contribution to public services, particularly for women.

She explained that the implants, such as IUDs and other contraceptives, were given at several health facilities from May 8, 2024.
