Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government strongly condemned the Israeli authority's decision to legalize five Jewish settlement outposts in the West Bank, internationally recognized as part of Palestine.

"Israel's settlement and continuous occupation in Palestine's territory are violations of international law and relevant UN resolutions," according to the Foreign Ministry's statement on its social media account on Monday.

The ministry affirmed that along with the international community, Indonesia will continue to demand Israeli accountability and push for the implementation of the two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The Israeli authority, on Thursday (June 27), approved steps proposed by far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich to recognize settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank.

Israel also decided to impose sanctions against the Palestinian authority.

The measure was taken although settlement outposts are established by illegal settlers on privately owned Palestinian land without prior approval from the Israeli authority.

International law regards the West Bank as well as East Jerusalem as occupied territories and considers all Israeli settlement building activity there illegal.

Israeli state broadcaster KAN on Friday (June 28) reported that the cabinet approved Smotrich's plan to resist international recognition of the State of Palestine and legal actions against Israel in international courts.

Apart from sanctioning the Palestinian authority and legalizing five Israeli settlement outposts in the West Bank, the Israeli authority also approved the issuance of tenders for thousands of new housing units in the settlements.

In response to Israel's move, Palestine's Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry condemned it as a blatant sabotage of the two-state solution efforts.

As reported by Palestine's WAFA news agency on Friday, the Palestine ministry deemed the action “aim to close the door on any opportunity for the realization of a Palestinian state.”
