The partnership was formalized on June 28 in Moscow with the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Perpusnas, the Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, and the National Library of the Russian Federation.
According to a statement released by Perpusnas acting head E. Aminudin Aziz on Monday, this collaboration will allow the three libraries to share best practices and valuable experiences, in addition to fostering information exchange.
He said that Perpusnas aims to expand its network and acquire more Indonesian manuscripts and collections held around the world. Aziz expressed optimism that this partnership will significantly enhance Perpusnas' role within the global library network.
Maria V. Belokolenko, Deputy Director General for Library Work at Margarita Rudomino Library, suggested the possibility of following up with an online seminar focusing on literature exchange between the two countries. She also expressed interest in a reciprocal visit to Perpusnas.
She highlighted the rich collection of her library, established in 1922, which boasts over 4.5 million items in 154 foreign languages, including 2,600 collections in Indonesian (primarily publications from the 1960s to the 1980s).
The library also holds a collection of 554 resources about Indonesia in various languages, mostly acquired through donations.
Meanwhile, Vadim Duda, Director General of the National Library of the Russian Federation, emphasized the cultural exchange potential of this collaboration. This library, which houses all national publications in Russia, boasts a collection exceeding 50 million items.
The cooperation with Perpusnas will be followed up with joint activities such as joint seminars and exhibitions, he said.
