"Knowledge transfer is a requisite for foreign workers' use in Indonesia. We require the technology that has benefited the foreign workers to be taught to Indonesian workers," Fauziyah stated during her visit to the Indonesian Embassy here on Tuesday (July 2).
The minister remarked that companies should facilitate knowledge transfer by an internal process or through cooperation with vocational training facilities operated by the ministry.
The minister also affirmed that her side will continue to improve the transfer of knowledge mechanism in Indonesian companies employing foreign workers, including from China.
Moreover, most foreign workers in Indonesia originated from China, as the number recorded by the ministry reached 34 thousand in the January-May 2024 period. Some 81,993 Chinese workers have also been reported by Indonesian companies in their foreign workers' utilization plans so far.
Meanwhile, Fauziyah remarked that during her China visit, she will meet Chinese Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Wang Xiaoping in Beijing, visit a vocational center in Shanghai, and observe vocational training by the technology conglomerate Huawei in Shenzhen.

"We expect to discuss efforts to bolster cooperation in the manpower sector and develop labor market information system and vocational training," the minister stated about the meeting with her Chinese counterpart.
Cooperation on occupational safety and health, work competency standards, and entrepreneurship development will also be discussed with Wang, she remarked.
"We will study from China how to develop our abundant workforce's skill and competency by directly observing vocational training centers operated either by the government or private sectors," Fauziyah remarked.
The transfer of knowledge from foreign workers to their Indonesian counterparts is regulated by Government Regulation No.34 of 2021 on Foreign Workers Utilization.
The law required every foreign worker to be paired with their Indonesian counterpart intended to be the recipient side for the knowledge transfer. The ministry recorded the participation of 51,609 Indonesian workers in such a scheme from January to May 2024.
