"Our differences must be our strengths and assets, not weaknesses. Through dialogue and multi-faith collaboration, let us build a better and more peaceful world," she added here on Wednesday.
While opening Leimena Institute's "International Conference on Cross-Cultural Religious Literacy," the minister said that Indonesia will continue to strengthen tolerance since its absence could cause social polarization to escalate into tensions or even, open conflict.
She also highlighted the important role of religious leaders in developing interfaith dialogue and diplomacy, especially as religion can "add fuel to the fire" when it comes to conflicts that do not stem from religious factors.
Indonesia has set an example by promoting the principle of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (unity in diversity) to foster cross-religious and cross-cultural understanding, she said.
"We must continue to uphold this principle as we navigate the complexities of global affairs," she emphasized.
Indonesia will also continue to promote religious and cultural inclusivity, where differences are treated as an asset to develop constructive dialogue and cultural understanding.
The minister highlighted Indonesia's consistency in engaging with global religious leaders on the matter, citing President Joko Widodo's recent meeting with the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Muhammad Ahmed al-Tayeb, on Tuesday and the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to Indonesia in September.
Indonesia will also foster multi-faith collaboration to encourage concrete actions to benefit humanity. She said that differences must not hinder efforts to work together.
"That is also why Indonesia fights for the state of Palestine, pushing for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza as well as the provision of unhindered humanitarian assistance to save more lives," Marsudi added.
