"Our RUKN states that nuclear (power) can be implemented in 2033," the ministry's Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Eniya Listiani Dewi said during a panel discussion on "Leading Up to COP-29" held here on Wednesday.
That way, Dewi explained, nuclear power programs can start to be maximized.
She said that her side has discussed nuclear power implementation several times with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
However, there are several concerns regarding nuclear power, such as the issues of safety, technological readiness, and human resources at nuclear power plants.
"Minister (Pandjaitan) still needs to be convinced related to the safety and human resources that can handle it, but we have prepared the regulation," she told ANTARA.
The proposed Nuclear Energy Program Implementation Organization (NEPIO) is expected to oversee the implementation of nuclear power plants, Dewi said.
"We are talking about NEPIO for the supervision of the (nuclear power plant) implementation," she added.
The ESDM Ministry has released a new regulation regarding the Preparatory Team for the Establishment of the NEPIO.
The regulation revises the previous ministry's regulation regarding the preparation team for NEPIO establishment to fulfill the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA's) requirements for building nuclear power plants.
Earlier, Dewi said that nuclear, hydrogen, ammonia, and other new energy sources have been included in the New Energy and Renewable Energy Bill (EBET Bill).
The EBET Bill was referred by the House of Representatives (DPR) to the government on June 14, 2022.
It is an initiative bill and part of the House's priority in the 2022 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
