Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has said that resilient co-operatives are those who control the market share.

He made the statement at the 77th National Co-operative Day (Harkopnas) commemoration in Batam city on Friday.

"The key is the same, co-operatives that can survive are the ones that control the market share. So do not forget about competitiveness," he said.

According to him, co-operatives have high competitiveness no matter the type of business and composition.

He added that co-operatives must participate in digitalization to boost Indonesia's economic resilience.

By celebrating the 77th Harkopnas, it is hoped that co-operatives in Indonesia can become one of the pillars for reviving the community-based economy, he said.

"This is a good event that shows co-operatives have been around for 77 years. I ask that co-operatives use new technology, namely digitalization, so that they have economic resilience," he added.

Earlier, Minister of Co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Teten Masduki, said that co-operatives have been a part of the smallholder business ecosystem, supporting the growth of small enterprises.

With the support of co-operatives, small and medium enterprises can be included in the national industrial supply chain.

Masduki made the remarks at the Harkopnas commemoration, themed "Co-operatives as an Ecosystem for Consolidation, Acceleration, and Escalation of Micro and Small Economies."

Harkopnas is celebrated every July 12 in Indonesia.

In a written statement released on Friday, Minister Masduki said that co-operatives are the most-accessed micro-funding solution by households in Indonesia.

"In fact, co-operatives have become the main agencies for business financing in the agricultural sector and rural areas," he added.
