The statement was delivered by the ministry's director of oil and gas program development, Mirza Mahendra, during a discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"We prioritize this gas to be maximally absorbed by seeking the price that is still possible for both parties, both the users and the gas producers," he said.
Based on data from the ministry, the volume of domestic natural gas utilization reached 5,868 billion British thermal units per day in 2023. The utilization value tended to increase from 2012 to 2023.
Further, the volume of domestic natural gas utilization has been greater than exports since 2012.
The utilization of natural gas reached 30.83 percent in the industrial sector, 11.72 percent in the fertilizer sector, and 11.82 percent in the electricity sector.
Meanwhile, of the total utilization of natural gas, the proportion of exports was 22.12 percent for liquified natural gas (LNG) and 8.45 percent for piped gas.
The ministry is securing the availability of natural gas, a raw material for fertilizer, to ensure the supply of fertilizers for farmers, maintain stability in fertilizer prices, and increase national food production.
