Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (PDTT) Abdul Halim Iskandar stated that the Integrated Village Economic Transformation (TEKAD) program was a solution to developing villages in Indonesia.

"The TEKAD program is a collaboration and stimulation in efforts to increase people's income and eradicate disadvantaged areas. Whatever policies we implement, they must be based on customs," Iskandar noted in a statement from his office on Friday.

The minister conveyed this when he attended the National Coordination Meeting for the Acceleration of Development of Disadvantaged Regions (PPDT) in Wamena, Jayawijaya, Highland Papua, on Thursday (July 18). At this meeting, the achievements of the TEKAD program were delivered.

All village food security products resulting from the implementation of the TEKAD Program Demonstration Plot (Demplot) were exhibited in a display case and reviewed by Iskandar and other regional officials.

The minister was all praise for the products from the TEKAD program through the Demonstration Plot activity.

He stated that the Demonstration Plot was a concrete manifestation of the success of village food security in Highland Papua based on local wisdom and potential.

He expressed hope that such achievements would inspire the utilization of the village fund since the TEKAD Demonstration Plot is carried out by village residents accompanied by technical instructors, including facilitators, according to the diversity of potential in each village.

The ministry has implemented the TEKAD program since 2020. It had reached nine provinces and 25 districts, consisting of 1,110 villages.

Six of the provinces are in Papua, namely West Papua, Southwest Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, and Highland Papua, consisting of 16 districts. The TEKAD program is located in Highland Papua and covers two districts, namely Yahukimo and Jayawijaya.

The TEKAD program aims to support the achievement of Village SDGs goals, namely the village's ability to increase community capacity to build economic independence through their resources in a sustainable manner.
