Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita concurred on taking two quick steps in the form of establishing a task force and monitoring seven commodities to halt the circulation of imported goods.

Hasan conveyed this after conducting a meeting with Kartasasmita at his office here Friday.

"The first step is to form a task force directed by me, Minister Kartasasmita, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, the National Police Chief, and the Attorney General," Hasan revealed after the meeting.

He said this step would be followed by monitoring the seven commodities comprising textiles and textile products (TPT), electronics, footwear, clothing, ceramics, and cosmetics that had been discussed at the limited meeting.

"We can carry out those efforts while still fixing other regulations. However, these two can be carried out quickly. Meanwhile, for the port, it can be proposed later," he remarked.

The port in question is the relocation port for imported goods, especially the seven imported commodities, which mostly enter through ports in Java Island.

Relocating the port outside Java will raise logistics costs and impact the selling price of imported goods to consumers.

Meanwhile, Kartasasmita said his side fully supports the decision to monitor illegally imported goods.

He emphasized that both ministries see the importance of supporting the manufacturing industry, which is the strength of Indonesia's economy.

"We had a fairly in-depth discussion in a warm atmosphere, and it was agreed that the formation of a task force to eradicate illegal imported goods is necessary, and we will support it," he stated.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the key to eradicating illegal imported goods also lies in the process of law enforcement.

In addition, the two ministries have mapped out ways for these imported goods to enter Indonesia.

"We have mapped out how imported goods can enter Indonesia. We already know it. Therefore, the success of this program lies in the (hands of the) task force led by the trade minister and the law enforcement (apparatus)," he revealed.
