Simbara is not merely an information system, but a comprehensive integration of various mining business processes, from upstream to downstream.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Mineral and Coal Information System for Ministries/Institutions (Simbara) has uncovered several instances of fraud by coal entrepreneurs using state revenue transaction numbers (NTPN), Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif informed on Monday.

"This system for coal commodities has detected several modes in the form of invalid NTPN usage," he said at the "Launching and Socialization of the Implementation of Nickel and Tin Commodities through Simbara."

Besides using invalid NTPN, entrepreneurs are employing other methods such as using the same NTPN for different or multiple transactions and an unreasonable time period for using NTPN, he added.

Therefore, the entry of nickel and tin commodities into Simbara is expected to have significant implications for mining industry stakeholders, especially in terms of increasing compliance with regulations, operational efficiency, transparency, accountability, and various sustainable efforts, he continued.

According to Tasrif, Simbara is not merely an information system, but a comprehensive integration of various mining business processes, from upstream to downstream.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati outlined Simbara's achievements before the entry of tin and nickel commodities into the system.

She said that Simbara succeeded in preventing the leakage of state revenues from illegal mining and evasion of state revenue payments worth Rp3.47 trillion (US$207 million).

Moreover, a leak of Rp2.53 trillion (US$151 million) was also successfully prevented through monitoring based on the risk profile of business actors, she added.

Other state revenues came from the settlement of receivables by implementing an automatic blocking system to increase business actor compliance. The settlement of these receivables brought in state revenues of Rp1.1 trillion (US$65 million).

"This only comes from coal commodities. With nickel and tin, which are the number one and number two of the largest minerals in the world, this will have a potential of Rp10 trillion (US$598 million)," Mulyani said.
