The minister explained that Simbara can prevent the leakage of state revenues from illegal mining methods and evasion of state revenue payments.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that Indonesia stood to gain income worth Rp5 trillion-R10 trillion (US$299 million-US$598 million) from the inclusion of tin and nickel commodities in Simbara's implementation.

Pandjaitan explained that Simbara is the Ministries/Agencies' Mineral and Coal Information System.

"From royalties, we can generate that amount of money. We have not even spoken about taxes," he remarked at the "Launching and Socialization of the Implementation of Nickel and Tin Commodities through SIMBARA" on Monday.

He believes that integrating tin and nickel commodities into Simbara can make entrepreneurs more orderly in doing business in the mineral sector.

The minister explained that Simbara can prevent the leakage of state revenues from illegal mining methods and evasion of state revenue payments.

"If the company refuses to comply with Customs, the company cannot export its products. This system will discipline this nation," Pandjaitan remarked.

He believes that this discipline can increase state income.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani explained Simbara's achievements before the inclusion of tin and nickel commodities into the system.

According to the minister, the system succeeded in preventing the leakage of state revenues from illegal mining methods and evasion of payment of state revenues worth Rp3.47 trillion (US$270 million).

She pointed out that a leak amounting to Rp2.53 trillion (US$151 million) was also successfully prevented through monitoring based on the risk profile of business actors.

Other state revenues come from the settlement of receivables by implementing an automatic blocking system to increase business actor compliance. The settlement of these receivables brought in state revenues of Rp1.1 trillion (US$65 million).

"This only comes from coal commodities. With nickel and tin, which are the number one and number two of the largest minerals in the world, this will have a potential of Rp10 trillion," Mulyani remarked.

Tin and nickel commodities were included in Simbara's implementation in keeping with Minister Pandjaitan's directive to speed up the process.

He admitted that the case of alleged corruption in the tin trading system in PT Timah Tbk for the 2015–2022 period, which the Attorney General's Office handled, was an eye-opener that accelerated the integration of tin and nickel minerals into the Simbara system.

"The corruption incident encouraged us to speed up this process," he said.
