Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is designing patrol ship-type fast patrol boats, FPB 28 and FPB 38, for the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Finance Ministry.

"We are committed and ready to oversee and accompany the preparation process for the procurement of this ship until it is completed in accordance with the schedule," Widjo Kongko, the head of BRIN's Hydrodynamic Technology Research Center (PRTH), said in a statement issued by the agency in Jakarta on Thursday.

Kongko informed that the patrol boat's design will incorporate a number of key technologies, including maximum speed compliance, aluminum ship materials, and a communication mitigation system integrated with digital features.

The patrol ship, he said, will also have a surveillance radar and navigation radar and be equipped with a dynamic stream to reduce ship rolling.

"Furthermore, the handover of the work will be carried out next week in Yogyakarta," he informed.

BRIN Deputy Head Amarulla Octavian has directed BRIN researchers to design the ship according to the needs of the directorate general and its duties and functions.

He said that the results of the BRIN researchers' design will be combined with various technologies that BRIN already owns and implements, such as a simulation program to calculate the best position of ship bases for Customs and Excise.

Octavian said he hopes that once completed, the ship will meet global standards since its construction process will comply with international maritime law regulations.

"The Customs ship is a government ship that has law enforcement authority in Indonesia's sovereign territory and Indonesia's sovereign rights territory. This must be designed for the future," he stressed.

Meanwhile, secretary of the director general of customs and excise, Ayu Sukorini, said that the collaboration with BRIN will support the duties and functions of Customs and Excise in protecting Indonesian waters, including preventing the entry of prohibited goods.

"We hope there will be assistance from BRIN to ensure the work is completed, both from a technical and administrative perspective," Sukorini added.
