Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Friday inaugurated operations at Batang Integrated Industrial Park in Central Java, which is expected to accommodate industries and factories as well as create jobs.

He informed that the Batang Integrated Industrial Area has been envisaged as an efficient industrial area that draws the interest of investors as well as opens many job opportunities.

"By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this afternoon, I officially launch the operation of the Batang Integrated Industrial Park in Batang district, Central Java province," he announced at the event, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

The President informed that the industrial park was built because, in 2019, the geopolitical dynamics between countries were heating up due to the trade war between the United States (US) and China.

He said that at that time, he saw great opportunity in the trend of companies seeking to relocate their industries and factories to countries with good economic growth, low inflation, and good stability and political situation.

"If we do not make a quick decision and implement this decision quickly, the opportunity will be lost," he cautioned.

President Widodo expressed gratitude over Indonesia ranking 27th in the World Competitiveness Index due to the country's good economic performance and business player efficiency.

The Batang Integrated Industrial Park was built on 400 hectares of land in the first phase, and is planned to span a total area of 4,300 hectares, which will later accommodate industries and factories.

The industrial park is also projected to absorb up to 250 thousand workers.

Currently, investment in the industrial park has reached Rp14 trillion (around US$860.26 million), with worker absorption pegged at around 19 thousand.
