"Schools in Nusantara are schools that nurture competence and characters of students to become life-long learners with (national ideology) Pancasila values,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The education road map for Indonesia's new capital Nusantara supports the establishment of inclusive and diverse schools.

Head of the Educational Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Irsyad Zamjani, delivered the remarks during an online discussion with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta on Monday.

"As a center of civilization, Nusantara should provide an example of quality education to be developed there," he said.

He underlined that education in the new capital must be developed comprehensively since it will serve as the main capital to realize the optimum development of the nation.

"Schools in Nusantara are schools that nurture competence and characters of students to become life-long learners with (national ideology) Pancasila values," he said.

He added that education in Nusantara must emphasize three aspects — student-centered learning; a school climate that is safe, inclusive, and celebrates diversity; and reflective educators who love to learn, share, and collaborate.

These three aspects will need to be supported by the leadership for continuous service improvement to create students who have Pancasila competencies and character.

To realize inclusive and diverse schools and instill students with Pancasila values, the government has issued the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister's Regulation Number 5 of 2022.

"There are six competencies and characteristics that are the main goals of educational services in the regulation, namely devoted to God and having noble morals, embracing global diversity, able to cooperate, independent, have critical thinking skills, and creative," he expounded.

He emphasized that the education road map for Nusantara will ensure that there is no child residing around the new capital who does not go to school and that all children are educated in keeping with their needs.

Furthermore, he said that schools in Nusantara can adopt the integrated school concept to set an example of continuity of levels of education with school infrastructure that prioritizes comfort and environmental friendliness.

"Schools in Nusantara must be catalysts for improving the quality of schools around the new capital, which have an independent governance system to create innovation and creativity," he added.
