Jakarta (ANTARA) - The coverage of the national program for recording body measurements of under-five children at integrated health posts (posyandu) has reached 95 percent, according to an official from the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).

"From a total of 16 million under-five children across Indonesia, based on data that has been input into the system, the measurement achievement nationally has reached 95 percent," BKKBN's acting deputy for training, research, and development, Irma Ardiana, said on Wednesday.

She made the statement at a workshop on the review of the implementation of the Partnership to Accelerate Stunting Reduction in Indonesia (PASTI) program.

Ardiana said that the achievement of the coverage of body measurement is inseparable from the role of posyandu cadres, who are required to be proactive in ensuring that the community-level health posts operate appropriately and conduct the body measurement program properly.

"We must have the database and ensure whether the cadres are available, proactive, and the anthropometric equipment," she said. "We continue to monitor whether the cadres have understood the simultaneous intervention."

She emphasized that the stunting prevention intervention must focus on approaching families that are at risk of stunting, integrated nutritional intervention, and a multiparty approach through the convergence of family-level services.

She expounded that the family-level services target several groups, such as prospective brides and grooms, children aged 0–59 months, and adolescents.

PASTI is carried out by the BKKBN and its partners, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Tanoto Foundation. As of June, the program has been implemented in four provinces, 14 districts, 44 sub-districts, and 547 villages.

Stunting reduction is a priority program of the government, which is seeking to bring down stunting prevalence to less than 20 percent this year.
