Investigators from the Pauh and Padang police precincts have been deployed to the fire-damaged building, according to Pauh Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Nasirwan.
Police have established a perimeter to prevent public access and are questioning witnesses, he told reporters on Saturday evening.
"We cannot determine the cause of the fire yet as the investigation is ongoing," he said, adding that no injuries were reported in the blaze, which started around 3:30 p.m. local time.
As previously reported, major fires remain a significant threat in many Indonesian cities.
Jakarta, in particular, has experienced several devastating fires in the past three years.
On April 18, 2024, a fire claimed seven lives in a shop building in Mampang Prapatan.
All seven victims were found deceased on the second floor of the building, according to the Mampang Prapatan police.
Additionally, a major fire at the Plumpang Pertamina Depot in Koja Subdistrict, North Jakarta, on March 3, 2023, resulted in 33 fatalities. Another fire in Pademangan Subdistrict, North Jakarta, on October 22, 2022, killed three people.
