AI has succeeded in helping us to achieve a 10-rank jump from 32nd to 22nd place.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, said on Tuesday that artificial intelligence (AI) technology has helped Indonesia reach the 22nd place on the tourism index, ahead of Thailand and Malaysia.
"AI has succeeded in helping us to achieve a 10-rank jump from 32nd to 22nd place," the minister informed at an event in Jakarta.
According to the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Malaysia is ranked 35th globally and Thailand 47th on the index.
Meanwhile, Singapore is ranked 13th globally, making it the country with the highest Travel and Tourism Development Index ranking in ASEAN region.
"AI helps to read tourism trends that are personalized, customized, localized, and smaller in size," Uno explained.
He said that "personalized" refers to tourism that is private or limited to families, while "customized" means tourism business owners prepare packages based on the needs of tourists, such as preference for open nature or beaches, or designing local cultural experiences at tourist villages.
"Localized" means that tourism experiences are prepared for domestic people within a short distance from home, he continued.
Lastly, "smaller in size" means that tourist attractions only accommodate a few people to ensure their comfort and offer spacious areas to be explored.
By reading this trend, AI assesses that the quality of tourists is more important than quantity, Uno said.
According to him, the quality of tourists in Indonesia is reflected by the length of their stay at a destination and how much they spend.
The minister informed that its analytical ability allows AI to support the creation of more quality and sustainable tourism offerings.
"Our number of tourists may not be on par with Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, but our ranking is higher than theirs," he said.
