Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged the National Police (Polri) and relevant stakeholders to take innovative measures to thwart potential cyberattacks.
"It is important to take innovative and comprehensive measures that can be some kind of 'vaccine' against cyberattacks. We cannot afford to let bureaucratic matters hinder our devotion to this unitary republic," he remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.
Speaking virtually for a seminar with student participants of Polri's Staff and Commander Academy (Sespimti), Amin placed emphasis on the importance of all police officers always acting swiftly on receiving reports from the public.
"It is vital that the Polri train its personnel stationed both at the headquarters and regions by involving relevant parties," he remarked.
The vice president then reminded police officers of their role as the guardians of public order and security and encouraged them to embrace criticism and input.
"Listen to criticism voiced by the public and respond to it by taking concrete actions. It should be noted that people's aspirations should be seen as a push for Polri to continue improving its services," he emphasized.
At the end of his speech, Amin expressed hope that the seminar would lead to the formulation of breakthroughs that can be applied to bolster Indonesia's cyber resilience.
Meanwhile, Head of Polri's Sespimti Inspector Gen. Chryshnanda Dwilaksana underscored the need for different institutions to work together to address the brand new challenges of the digitization era.
Dwilaksana believes such collaboration is necessary, considering some people in Indonesia are still using foreign digital apps that might compromise the country's cybersecurity.
The police officer then highlighted the need for Indonesia to produce more talents that wield a reliable understanding of the Internet of Things.
