Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) has prepared as many as 4,520 personnel under the Tribata Jaya Operation to secure the visit of Pope Francis to Indonesia from September 3–6, 2024.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, head of the public information bureau of the Polri, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said that the personnel comprise 1,077 personnel from the Polri Headquarters and 3,443 personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

He said that Pope Francis is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on September 3. Then, on September 4, he is scheduled to meet with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

On September 5, he is scheduled to attend an interfaith meeting at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, followed by a meeting with beneficiaries of charitable organizations at the Office of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI).

"On the same day in the afternoon, the Pope will hold a large-scale mass at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, which will be attended by tens of thousands of Catholics," he said.

He assured that optimal security cover would be provided for all activities of Pope Francis in Indonesia to ensure they run safely.

The Tribata Jaya Operation is set to be carried out for six days, from September 2–7.

The operation will not only focus on securing the visit of Pope Francis but also the International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, which will take place from September 4–6 at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

Indonesia will be the first country to be visited by Pope Francis during his series of visits in September 2024. After Indonesia, the Pope is scheduled to visit Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore.

The Pope previously planned to visit Indonesia in 2020, but had to call it off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
