Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Home Affairs Ministry Yusharto Huntoyungo has urged the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) government to diversify and expand innovation in various sectors.

This step is deemed necessary to ensure that the development of innovation is not limited to certain sectors, which, in NTT's case, are education and health.

"Innovation is still dominated by the education and health sectors, while other sectors are still low," he said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

Huntoyungo explained that innovation in various sectors will help the NTT government improve the region's competitiveness and residents' welfare.

According to him, diversification can open up new opportunities for the NTT government to develop its potential. It could also help strengthen the local economy.

The BSKDN head also appealed to all officials in NTT to collaborate for the better development of innovation.

He underlined that cooperation between officials in the region is key for innovation acceleration in NTT.

He added that holding focus group discussions (FGD) could be one of the measures that the provincial government could take to increase the creativity of its regional officials in solving problems related to the implementation of governance.

Based on the 2023 regional innovation report, NTT experienced an improvement, both in terms of the number of innovations and rank, in the Regional Innovation Index.

The number of reported innovations reached 313, including 263 implementation innovations, 22 trial innovations, and 28 initiative innovations. With this number, the innovation score of NTT reached 62.53, or "very innovative."
