According to Bali police spokesman Senior Commissioner Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, witnesses reported that the fire started in a clothing store in the east basement number 3 of the market.
"We deeply regret that this fire incident occurred on Indonesia's 79th Independence Day," he said.
Panjaitan added that no casualties were reported and the Gianyar Fire and Rescue Agency deployed 21 fire trucks to extinguish the blaze. Local police and military personnel also assisted in firefighting efforts.
The Block A of the Ubud art market, located in front of the Ubud Temple, has a history of fires. A previous fire in March 2016 led to renovations completed on September 23, 2023.
Indonesia has experienced several significant fires in recent years. A three-story building at Padang State Polytechnic in West Sumatra caught fire on August 3, 2024.
A shop building fire in Mampang Prapatan, Jakarta, on April 18, 2024, claimed seven lives.
The devastating Plumpang Pertamina Depot fire in North Jakarta on March 3, 2023, resulted in 33 fatalities.
Additionally, a fire in Pademangan Subdistrict, North Jakarta, on October 22, 2022, caused three deaths.
