Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's newly inaugurated Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) instructed him to implement legal reforms.

"Particularly those related to overlapping regulations among various laws," Agtas said after his inauguration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

President Jokowi seeks to harmonize laws to prevent sectoral egos caused by overlapping regulations, Agtas said.

"Laws and regulations should be harmonized and integrated to avoid sectoral egos caused by overlaps," he remarked.

He said he had communicated with his predecessor Yasonna Laoly and ensured the continuation of Laoly's successful programs.

"Mr. Laoly is my good friend. Last night, we spoke, and I assured him that it would be impossible to change everything in the ministry," Agtas said. "All successful programs from his tenure will be continued and perfected."

Agtas was born in Soppeng, South Sulawesi, on September 28, 1969. He is a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the Gerindra Party and serves as Chairman of the DPR Legislative Body.
