"The Indonesian diaspora must become an ambassador for Indonesia in the future, both to promote national trade as well as to promote Indonesia as an investment and tourism destination," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
While delivering the key statement at the 2024 Global General Assembly, Pahala added that the Indonesian diaspora should promote the positive aspects of the culture, products, and commodities, as well as strategic sectors of Indonesia.
Currently, around 8 million Indonesian diaspora are working in various sectors of expertise in many countries, he noted.
Those diasporas are also expected to counter negative narratives about Indonesia, especially on the issues of critical mineral production and green economy--which would be impacted by potential investment in the country.
Such efforts could also improve Indonesia's positive image in the eyes of the world, he said.
Pahala also highlighted the diaspora's potential to open doors for domestic businesses in international markets. Their expertise in strategic fields can contribute to technological advancements and national self-sufficiency.
