The National Alms Agency (Baznas) is devising several planning instruments to strengthen its capacity and modernize the management of zakat, or Islamic alms, in Indonesia.
"Baznas, as an agency mandated by law to manage national alms, has continued to pursue the formulation of effective policies in a bid to harness Indonesia's alms potential," Baznas Deputy for Planning, Studies, and Development, Zainulbahar Noor, noted.
Based on Baznas' statement received here on Saturday, the official made the remarks during the agency's coordination meeting for Bali, Aceh, North Sumatra, Banten, and Central Sulawesi provinces in Bali on August 21.
Noor highlighted that Baznas is currently working to draw up the National Long-Term Alms Development Plan (RPJPZN) and National Middle-Term Alms Development Plan (RPJMZN).
He further remarked that the national agency is also preparing the Strategic Plan for Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, and other Religious Social Funds (ZIS-DSKL), which outlines visions, missions, policy direction, and performance indicators of Baznas' offices at the national and regional levels.
Noor stated that Baznas would then proceed to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the ZIS-DSKL Strategic Plan once it has been devised and rolled out.
He emphasized that such management plans are essential to actualizing effective, transparent, and accurate management of zakat, considering that Indonesia has entered an era replete with challenges and increasingly complex economic dynamics.
"The Baznas is committed to continuing to make good use of technology to collect, distribute, and report alms while working in synergy with governments, alms institutions, and other stakeholders to create an integrated zakat ecosystem," he affirmed.
Noor then stated that Baznas would also synchronize planning and budgeting to achieve the zakat targets outlined in its strategic plan.
