She expects the forum to enhance the relationship between Indonesia and African countries, noting that this enhancement can only be achieved if the parliament strengthens — not duplicates — cooperation between governments.
"Added value will be achieved if IAPF cooperation helps realize the aspirations of people in Africa and Indonesia for a more peaceful and prosperous life," she said.
"Given that various global crises directly impact our citizens, the parliament must be more active in addressing global problems," she added.
Maharani emphasized that parliament must promote peace, denounce violence, and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international issues — especially in democratic countries where parliament plays a role in shaping policies related to war or peace.
She also highlighted that Indonesia and Africa should continue supporting the Palestinian struggle for independence, work to end the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, and advocate for peace in conflict-affected regions.
"Similarly, we face a choice: to foster mutually beneficial cooperation rather than a zero-sum approach, and to strengthen multilateralism rather than pursuing unilateral policies," she added.
The IAPF, held in Bali from August 31 to September 2, has the theme "Strengthening the Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Partnership for Development."
The event, running concurrently with the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) High-Level Forum (FTT), will host approximately 855 participants from various countries.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to attend the event.
