Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia shows the international community that harmony between religious communities in the country is guaranteed.

"When it comes to the value of religious moderation, it is very important in conveying a message and showing the world that religious harmony in Indonesia is guaranteed and has been implemented," the ministry's spokesman, Sunanto, stated in Jakarta on Monday.

The leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, will make an apostolic journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore on September 3-13, 2024.

Indonesia is the first country in the series of visits by Pope Francis to the Asia-Pacific region, namely on September 3-6, 2024.

Sunanto remarked that based on the arrival schedule, the ministry and several other ministries, as well as institutions, will participate in facilitating Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia.

"God willing, we have prepared for the Pope's arrival in Indonesia, so it is part of the preparation," Sunanto remarked.

Sunanto stated that Indonesia will bring to Pope Francis' attention the religious moderation built so far, thereby also voicing harmony between religious communities to the international world.

"Religious moderation from across religions will definitely be conveyed," he emphasized.

Pope Francis will arrive in Indonesia on September 3, 2024. On the next day, Pope Francis is scheduled to meet President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

On September 5, 2024, Pope Francis is scheduled to attend an interfaith meeting at the Istiqlal Mosque and continue with a meeting with beneficiaries of charitable organizations at the Office of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI).
