"The haul included 51.28 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 16,016 ecstasy pills, and 173.74 grams of ecstasy powder," the chief of South Kalimantan Police, Inspector General Winarto, informed in Banjarbaru on Wednesday.
He said that the drugs were seized during investigations in August 2024.
Two prominent cases, led by director of narcotics investigation with the South Kalimantan Police, Senior Commissioner Kelana Jaya, resulted in the confiscation of a significant proportion of the drugs.
In the first case, Sub-Directorate I, headed by Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Deddi Daniel Siregar, arrested a suspect, identified with the initials WO, at Sampaga Hotel in Banjarmasin.
The suspect was found with 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 11 thousand ecstasy pills.
In the second case, Sub-Directorate III, led by AKBP Ade Harri Sistriawan, arrested suspect AY on Gubernur Soebarjo Road in Banjar district.
AY was carrying 29.9kg of crystal methamphetamine, 4,832 ecstasy pills, and 13.91 grams of ecstasy powder.
Winarto said that the two suspects were part of an international network that supplied narcotics from Malaysia to South Kalimantan via West Kalimantan.
He emphasized the importance of increased coordination with the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police to suppress the activities of the network.
Adi Santoso, representing the Governor of South Kalimantan, Sahbirin Noor, expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by South Kalimantan Police's narcotics directorate to combat the drug problem.
He highlighted the significant impact that drug seizures have had on keeping drugs from reaching the community.
A total of 20 suspects, including one woman, were present during the drug destruction event.
The suspects were involved in 16 cases handled by investigators from the narcotics directorate.
