Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Monday, inaugurated four sections of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road in Aceh Province that is expected to grow new economic points in the region.

Today, he officiated the inauguration of sections 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road," he said, as followed via a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

The four sections of the inaugurated toll road are 35 kilometers long, comprising Section 2 Seulimeum-Jantho (6 km), Section 3 Jantho-Indrapuri (16 km), Section 5 Blang Bintang-Kuto Baru (8 km), and Section 6 Kuto Baru-Baitussalam (5 km).

The president emphasized that infrastructure is crucial for improved connectivity and vowed to accelerate the construction of toll roads, including the 2,998-kilometer Trans Sumatra Toll Road from Lampung to Aceh.

"We hope the Trans Sumatra Toll Road will encourage economic growth and quality in Sumatra, improve travel time efficiency, and increase the multiplier effect in the community," he remarked.

Jokowi noted that four of the six sections of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road have been built since 2019, with a budget of around Rp13.5 trillion (US$874 million).

He believes the four sections of the toll road will establish new economic points, grow new businesses, motivate small and micro businesses to expand their businesses, and revive the economy in Aceh Province.

President Jokowi, accompanied by First Lady Iriana, visited Aceh Province to inaugurate several infrastructures and open the 21st National Sports Week (PON) Aceh-North Sumatra.

Yusuf Permana, deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, noted that upon arriving at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Aceh Besar District, the president went straight to the Baitussalam Toll Gate to inaugurate several sections of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road."

"Furthermore, the president and his entourage will head to the H Dimurthala Stadium, Banda Aceh City, to inaugurate the rehabilitation, renovation, and construction of the 21st PON venue in Aceh Province," he remarked.

The head of state will also review health facilities and services at the dr Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Banda Aceh City, he added.
