The establishment of the military force is inevitable, and more countries have set up similar branches, he noted at the Parliament Complex here on Wednesday.
"Cyberthreats have now become a global phenomenon, as showed in our past vulnerabilities in data and cybersecurity," Simanjuntak said.
He assured that the Army will prepare all the necessary aspects, including human resources, to anticipate ever-evolving cyberthreats through the future cyber military force.
The chief of staff also highlighted the need for collaboration with other stakeholders, including the Defense Ministry and the Communication and Informatics Ministry, to develop the cyber military force and determine the responsibility of each agency to bolster national cybersecurity.
On September 3, 2024, Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto confirmed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had ordered him to establish a cyber military force.
The future cyber branch would be different from other branches of the TNI, as more civilians will be roped in for it, and skills will be prioritized in their recruitment, he explained.
Subiyanto informed that the TNI currently has a cyber unit, which is highly dependent on the capability of human resources.
His side is so far planning to establish a cyber military center at the TNI headquarters and in each military branch. High school and university graduates will be recruited for the cyber centers, Subiyanto revealed.
