Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi informed that the first landing of a passenger jet at Nusantara (IKN) Airport, East Kalimantan, on Thursday went off smoothly and safely.

Minister Sumadi, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, Raja Juli Antoni, and their entourage joined the landing test, which involved a Cessna Citation Longitude jet owned by the ministry's Aviation Facilities Calibration Center.

"Today, we conducted a proving flight with a Cessna Citation Longitude, a jet aircraft with the same qualifications as a Boeing 737. The aircraft successfully landed smoothly and safely at IKN Airport," Sumadi announced on Thursday.

He further informed that the verification and calibration of IKN Airport were completed a few days ago. Therefore, the aspects of flight safety and security at the airport have been confirmed to meet standards.

"Verification was carried out on September 8–9, 2024, followed by a calibration on September 10. Thus, IKN Airport is ready for takeoffs and landings of presidential aircraft," he confirmed.

The minister also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to related parties for their support in the construction of the airport.

Currently, the IKN Airport has a 2,200-meter-long runway. The construction of the VVIP terminal building at the airport is more than 90 percent complete.

Meanwhile, the main access road to the airport is almost 100 percent ready, followed by the completion of other supporting facilities, Sumadi noted.

He said he is optimistic that the IKN Airport will be fully complete by the December 31, 2024, deadline.

Meanwhile, the pilot of the Cessna Citation Longitude aircraft, Captain Win Warsono, informed that the flight was the first to IKN Airport in the jet engine category with a class C classification.

He and his flight crew coordinated with the Directorate of Airports of the Ministry of Transportation and the verification team, and entered the data obtained from the verification into the Longitude aircraft's navigation system.

Airnav and the Navigation Directorate also evaluated security and safety procedures with satisfactory results.

"From our analysis, the existing runway has a gripping asphalt. This means that the braking action is extraordinary. Before 2,200 meters, the jet was able to stop with a normal configuration," he disclosed.
