Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga has praised Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) for its commitment to fighting for women's and children's rights in the last five years.

"Thank you for the synergy, collaboration, and support that has been continuously given by Commission VIII of the DPR to the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection," she said in a statement released here on Thursday.

She noted that with the synergy that has been built and the support of all stakeholders, her ministry and the commission have passed several progressive policies to realize gender equality as well as protect and fulfill the rights of women and children.

Puspayoga noted that on September 4, 2024, the DPR approved the Work Plan and Budget (RKA) of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection for 2025 with a budget ceiling of Rp300.65 billion (around USD19.46 million).

The budget will be used to discharge the duties and functions of the ministry, especially for addressing strategic issues, national development priorities, and development priorities for women's empowerment and child protection.

Meanwhile, an additional budget of Rp70.76 billion agreed upon by the ministry and the commission has not been approved by the Budget Agency of the DPR.

The minister informed that the Non-Physical Special Allocation Fund for the Protection of Women and Children initiative will be continued in 2025.

For next year, the government has allocated a Physical Special Allocation Fund for the Protection of Women and Children.

The special allocation funds will be used to help regions achieve national priorities, particularly reducing violence against women and children.

The funds will also be used to increase the coverage and quality of services for women and children who have fallen victim to violence, human trafficking victims, children in conflict with the law, and child marriage victims.
