Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, has instructed the Directorate General of Taxes to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of sensitive taxpayer data being leaked online.

"I have tasked the director general of taxes and relevant officials within the ministry to evaluate this matter. The director general of taxes (Suryo Utomo) and the IT team will provide a detailed explanation," she said after attending a plenary session on the 2025 State Budget on Thursday.

The data leak allegations surfaced after the founder of Ethical Hacker Indonesia, Teguh Aprianto, shared a screenshot of the Breach Forums website on X.

On the site, an individual known as Bjorka had listed 6 million tax identification numbers (NPWP) for sale on September 18, 2024.

The data included not only NPWPs, but also identity card numbers (NIK), addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other personal information.

The seller reportedly demanded Rp150 million for the entire dataset.

In the same tweet, Teguh said that the leaked data also included information belonging to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his sons Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Kaesang Pangarep.

The leak also targeted Indrawati and several other ministers, such as Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi; Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir; Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy; Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas; Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan; and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

After the investigation is complete, the ministry will hold a press conference to share an update on its findings.

The Directorate General of Taxes has said that its technical team is currently investigating the matter. "Our technical team is actively investigating the reported data leak," director of counseling, services, and public relations at the directorate general, Dwi Astuti, said.
