Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) M. Syarifuddin read out the oath of office of legislators serving at the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024-2029 legislative term in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"(I pledge) that I will fulfil my duty as a DPR member in the best and fairest manner possible within legitimate corridors by placing Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution as my guidelines," he said, followed by all DPR members.

"That I will carry out my obligations by exerting my utmost for the sake of a democratic life and prioritizing national interests over personal interests of a person or a group," Syarifuddin further stated.

The chief justice affirmed that by stating the vow, all lawmakers are bound by the responsibility to serve the nation and the country, prompting them to preserve and ensure the true implementation of Indonesia's ideology, Pancasila, and the 1945 Constitution as the country's supreme law.

"To the God Almighty and the people, you have made a promise, to which you must stay true with all sincerity and honesty," he told parliamentarians.

Today, the Parliamentary Building bore witness to the inauguration of 580 elected DPR members and 152 elected senators serving at the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

In comparison with the previous legislative period, the current number of DPR members has increased from 575, while that of DPD members has increased from 136.

The newly inducted national legislators represent several political parties: Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Golkar Party, Gerindra Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), NasDem Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Democratic Party, and National Mandate Party (PAN).
