Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy III for Economic Affairs of the Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Edy Priyono stated that one of the greatest achievements during President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) administration was inflation control.

According to Priyono, the average inflation over the past decade was recorded at 3.79 percent per year, excluding the 2020-2021 pandemic period, during which it fell into the fairly good category.

"In our opinion, President Widodo pays the most attention to inflation," he stated in a national seminar on Thursday.

He remarked that the Home Affairs Ministry conducts regional inflation control coordination meetings every week. Some parties had suggested holding the meeting every two or three weeks, though the president resisted.

"This is a form of his attention to inflation control. It bears a real result that can be compared with other countries. Of course, some countries have lower inflation than us, but we managed to have a good achievement as well," Priyono stated.

He then compared the average inflation in the 2014-2023 period with other countries, including Brazil at 6.1 percent; South Africa, 5.48 percent; India, 4.7 percent; Mexico, 4.7 percent; Indonesia, 3.83 percent, including the pandemic period; Vietnam, 2.96 percent; Malaysia, 2.33 percent; China, 1.77 percent; and Thailand, 1.37 percent.

"At first we thought our low inflation would only be temporary. However, the data shows that we have entered a low inflation regime. Nowadays, three percent inflation is considered quite high," he remarked.

Furthermore, in September 2024, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded annual inflation (year-on-year/yoy) in Indonesia at 1.84 percent.

"There was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.02 in September 2023 to 105.93 in September 2024," BPS Acting Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated on Tuesday (October 1).
