Ferdianto stressed that provincial governments need to emulate the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which treats disability sports and non-disability sports equally.
Furthermore, he affirmed that NPC Indonesia is continuing to prepare disabled athletes so that they can perform well at international events.
Sports talents are being scouted from regions through the regional NPC Indonesia representatives, who are currently spread across 35 provinces.
To recruit athletes, NPC Indonesia visits their families directly and conducts competitions at the district, city, provincial, and national levels.
In this regard, support from regional governments at the lowest level is deemed crucial to back the emergence of high-achieving athletes who can be included in national-level centralized training programs.
Ferdianto further said that with national-level training and support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, athletes can get more opportunities to collect points at international competitions so that they can qualify for the Paralympics.
At the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics, Indonesia won 14 medals comprising one gold medal, eight silver medals, and five bronze medals.
The medal tally was the highest for the country since it first participated in the multi-sport event in 1976.
So far, Indonesia has won a total of 41 medals comprising seven gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals at the Paralympics.
