The stadium was constructed by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
"The PUPR Ministry supported PB PASI (Indonesia Athletic Federation) in establishing this national athletics training center in Pangalengan," head of the West Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center of the ministry's Directorate General of Human Settlements, Oscar Siagian, informed in Bandung on Thursday.
He said that the PB PASI stadium, which is located at a strategic altitude of 1,500 meters above the sea level, offers a unique training environment that can significantly enhance athletes' performance.
"This high altitude environment allows athlete's VO2 max to increase," he explained.
VO2 max refers to the maximum amount of oxygen the body can absorb and use during exercise. It measures athletes' aerobic fitness levels.
The stadium's comprehensive facilities also add to its potential to elevate Indonesian athletics.
Its eight running tracks, additional 100-meter track, and dedicated arenas for different disciplines, such as shot put and long jump, provide a diverse training environment.
Built at a cost of Rp94 billion, the 10-hectare facility also has a dedicated discus throwing area and a track for hill run training.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the stadium offers essential support services.
Its dormitories, fitness center, changing rooms, and classrooms have been designed to create a conducive environment for athletes to focus on their training and recovery.
"Each men's and women's dormitory can accommodate 42 athletes, totaling up to 92," Siagian informed.
"In the future, the assets are planned to be transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for further management," he added.
