Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has urged regional governments to form a special task force without delay to address pornography.

In a statement on Friday, the ministry's deputy for the coordination of children's, women's, and youth quality improvement, Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, said that regional governments have been asked to establish the task force in accordance with a Home Affairs Minister circular issued in 2019.

The formation of the task force is also supported by Home Affairs Minister Regulation Number 15 of 2023 on Regional Budget Drafting for 2024, which outlines budget allocations for supporting the pornography prevention and handling movement.

Sulistyaningrum emphasized the need for synergy, as pornography cases in the country are becoming increasingly concerning.

"Data from the National Crime Information Center of the National Police in 2024 recorded that approximately 17.13 percent of the total 1,410 victims of pornography, pornographic actions, and sexual exploitation were under the age of 17," she pointed out.

She also highlighted data from the National Police Cyber Crime Directorate, indicating that the number of online child pornography incidents recorded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reached 7,491,564 from 2019 to 2023.

According to research, pornography addiction is more dangerous than drug addiction because it damages more areas of the brain related to self-control and decision-making. This can lead to insensitivity to norms and reduced concentration and motivation to learn, she explained.

"We must act swiftly with all our resources to prevent pornography and protect our human resources and future generations," Sulistyaningrum added.

She also called on all parties to intensify the Anti-Pornography National Movement through the One Hour Without Gadgets campaign, which promotes education on the healthy use of the Internet, the harmful effects of pornography, and prevention and handling efforts.
