Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Government is planning to revise Presidential Regulation Number 25 of 2012 concerning the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Pornography (GTP3) to strengthen the prevention and handling of pornography cases.

"This presidential regulation has been stagnant since 2012. Through this ministerial-level meeting (RTM), we want to give new perceptions on pornography prevention and handling," Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Saiful Rahmat Dasuki said at the meeting on Wednesday.

According to him, Indonesia is experiencing a pornography emergency. Breakthroughs are needed to prevent and handle pornography in the country.

He pointed out that existing regulations are not effective as several legal norms are in dire need of improvement.

"We will strengthen this presidential regulation to be submitted to the President with a new perception emphasizing the regulation to be implemented in central and regional government," Dasuki said.

During the meeting, deputy for coordination of improving the quality of children, women, and youth at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Woro Srihastuti, said that the draft of the new presidential regulation will accommodate other ministries to strengthen the prevention and handling of pornography.

For example, in Presidential Regulation Number 25 of 2012, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs has not been included in the task force. Likewise with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Their involvement is needed to support prevention and handling efforts from upstream to downstream, Srihastuti explained.

"Pornography handling also reaches the legal realm. Thus, we need related ministries to be involved in this effort," she stated.

In addition, the daily chairperson post, which was previously held by the Minister of Religious Affairs at the task force, will be handed over to the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPA), she informed.

"However, it still needs deeper study for the division of duty of each ministry," she said.
