Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs has provided disaster response assistance worth Rp592 million to victims of the recent flash flood and landslides in Central Aceh district, Aceh province. According to a statement issued by the ministry on Monday, the assistance comprises one unit of multipurpose tent, five units of portable family tents, 100 units of roll-up tents, 100 blankets, and 100 mattresses.

"For today (October 14, 2024), there are logistics from the Sentra Insyaf Medan warehouse that just arrived at the location," Agus Setyo Wibowo, an official from the ministry's Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims, said.

He added that the ministry has also distributed assistance in the form of 163 children's food packages, 230 ready-to-eat food packages, 100 food and clothing packages, 100 adult clothing packages, 100 family kit packages, and 100 kids kit packages.

The assistance, he informed, is currently being stored at the Central Aceh Social Office.

Earlier, heavy rains from October 7 to October 9 caused flooding and landslides in four villages in Central Aceh.

The disasters affected at least one hundred houses. A total of six homes were destroyed by the flood and six other residences were badly damaged by landslides.

The death toll reached four. They all belonged to one family from Amung Ara village, Celala sub-district.

Teams from the Ministry of Social Affairs conducted quick response through initial coordination with the local government and institutions in handling the impact of the disaster.

"As of today, the residents have cleaned houses that were affected and have started to carry out their daily activities," Wibowo said.

According to him, residents whose homes have been rendered unlivable due to the damage have chosen to evacuate to their relatives' homes.

The local government has also distributed aid in the form of 20 adult clothing packages and 32 children's clothing packages to the victims.
