The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has constructed 256 buildings of the Integrated Hajj and Umrah Service Center (PLHUT) since Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas took office in 2019.
According to the ministry's Director General of Hajj and Umrah, Hilman Latief, the PLHUT development program began in 2019 with the construction of 19 buildings. In the following year, the ministry erected 40 more PLHUT buildings.
Speaking in Jakarta on Thursday, Latief reported that the number of PLHUT buildings constructed over subsequent years had continued to rise, with 42 built in 2021, 45 in 2022, and 55 each in 2023 and 2024.
Latief noted that the PLHUT buildings, each constructed using up to Rp4 billion (around USD258 thousand) in state sharia securities (SBSN), can be found across the country, from Aceh to Papua.
"The Hajj and Umrah Directorate General has set the target of constructing 503 PLHUT buildings across Indonesia by 2029," he remarked.
Latief further noted that the PLHUT buildings are located within the complex of district- and municipal-level branch offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs while noting that their presence is expected to speed up and facilitate services related to Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.
He elaborated that each PLHUT building soars two stories high, with the first floor dedicated to service rooms, while the second floor serves as a multi-function space.
Latief noted that people can visit the buildings to get information on Hajj and Umrah, register for the pilgrimages, make payments via appointed banks, and also learn about the rituals and ceremonies they will perform during a Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage.
He also ensured that all PLHUT buildings are friendly to people with disabilities, children, and breastfeeding women.
