Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Maman Abdurrahman, has highlighted his commitment to advancing MSMEs by stepping up collaboration with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and large-scale private companies.

During the office handover in Jakarta on Monday, the newly inducted minister noted that collaboration is important given the ministry's limited budget.

He emphasized that relying on the state budget would not be enough to push sustainable national development.

"During the seven years (in the House of Representatives), I handled large companies, mining companies, oil companies, sustainable energy companies, and now, it is time for me to ask them to support MSMEs in Indonesia," he said.

He also underlined the importance of designing a clear system for cooperation between large companies and MSMEs, for instance, in terms of determining how to organize cooperation, measure its success, and ensure that MSMEs get real benefits.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the importance of the legal aspect in building such collaboration to identify the potential benefits and risks that could arise from it.

He added that synergy with foreign investors, especially venture capitalists, is needed to support the growth of Indonesian MSMEs, whose number totals 65 million and who absorb 97 percent of the workforce.

Abdurrahman was inaugurated as Minister of MSMEs in the Red and White Cabinet of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday with 47 other ministers.

The Golkar Party politician was a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) from 2019 to 2024. The commission oversees the fields of energy, environment, research, and technology.
