Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian ordered Ribka Haluk, the former acting governor of Central Papua, currently serving as his deputy minister, to take a monthly homecoming trip to address issues in Indonesia's Papua provinces.

"I have delegated tasks to my two deputies. I have asked Madam Ribka Haluk to visit Papua once a month to deal with matters related to the region as a deputy minister," he remarked at the Home Affairs Ministry office here on Tuesday.

At a welcome ceremony for his two new deputy ministers, Karnavian underscored that Haluk is currently responsible for the conditions in Central Papua and five other provinces in the Papua region.

"Previously managing Central Papua, she now needs to coordinate with six acting governors as well as district heads and mayors (in Papua) to oversee the implementation of the (upcoming) regional head elections," he pointed out.

Earlier, Indonesia's Papua only consisted of the provinces of Papua and West Papua. In 2022, parts of the two provinces were separated to establish the provinces of Central Papua, South Papua, Highland Papua, and Southwest Papua.

The minister also urged Haluk to manage the Home Affairs Ministry's Directorate General of Regional Administration Development.

Furthermore, Karnavian instructed the former acting governor to monitor the work of the ministry's National Border Management Agency (BNPP) and of local public security and order agencies (Satpol PP) and fire departments.

President Prabowo Subianto, on Monday (October 21), inaugurated Ribka Haluk and former Bogor mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto as deputy ministers of home affairs at the State Palace, Jakarta, in place of John Wempi Wetipo.

Meanwhile, Karnavian was trusted to reprise his ministerial role for the next five years after serving under the administration of the 7th President Joko Widodo.
