"After this, we have a cabinet session. We are waiting for a directive from President Prabowo," Gibran remarked here on Wednesday.
Gibran indicated that while his duties may be similar to those of former vice president Ma'ruf Amin, he needs clear direction from President Prabowo regarding his exact responsibilities.
After being inaugurated on October 20, Gibran, however, has been actively monitoring the free nutritious lunch program trial conducted in schools.
On Wednesday, he inspected the implementation of the free lunch program trial at the public junior high school SMPN 270 in North Jakarta. It was his second time monitoring the program trial.
The day before, Gibran visited the Jakarta Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Phase 1B project construction site and inspected the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center (CYESC).
Gibran affirmed that as vice president, he deems it necessary to play an active role in helping the president through on-field visits.
"We are the president's assistants. We need to ensure that the existing development runs well. We will make sure that these locations, especially those of national strategic projects, can run well before being launched by President Prabowo," Gibran stated.
The free nutritious meal program is part of the Prabowo-Gibran administration's priority programs.
Implementation of the program is expected to begin on January 2 next year, according to the National Nutrition Agency.
According to Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2024, the program's budget had been set at Rp71 trillion (about US$4.3 billion) and would be managed by the National Nutrition Agency.
