At a seminar followed virtually from Jakarta on Thursday, the ministry's director, Khairul Munadi, drew attention to curriculum modernization as the first step, pointing to the importance of integrating subjects related to digital affairs laws, cybercrimes, environmental laws, and global trade regulations.
Second, Munadi highlighted the need to adopt sophisticated technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, in the implementation of legal education to provide students with better lessons about modern practices of law.
Elaborating on the next step, the director deemed it necessary to apply a multidisciplinary approach that combines aspects related to business, technology, and international relations in a bid to widen scientific horizons and drive research.
"(Applying) an approach is equally important to improve learning processes in higher education institutions," Munadi emphasized.

He then drew attention to the fourth step, underscoring the importance of boosting students' capabilities and ensuring their skills' relevance to the actual needs in the professional scene by offering them practical internship programs at law firms, courts, government institutions, or legal clinics.
Furthermore, the official urged universities to forge international collaborations while emulating the best practices of foreign legal schools and adapting them to Indonesia's conditions.
Last, Munadi affirmed that improving the quality of higher education institutions is a prerequisite to paving the way toward a successful legal education transformation, noting that legal colleges stand as research centers that can help adjust legal frameworks to national needs.
"We would like to reiterate that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology is ready to collaborate with relevant partners, including the National Development Planning Agency, to pursue improvements in the quality of legal education," he concluded.
