Director general of small, medium, and various industries at the ministry, Reni Yanita, said here on Thursday that the program could improve the capacity of small and medium industry players through mentoring, easy market access, and fulfillment of the necessary regulations and standards.
"OVOP is an approach to develop potential in one region to produce a unique global class product that is typical to the region by utilizing local resources," she added.
She informed that the ministry has carried out the OVOP program since 2007, which was strengthened by the issuance of the Industry Minister's Regulation Number 14 of 2021.
She further said that her ministry is carrying out a more advanced program, namely the OVOP Go Global, to push further development by evaluating the potential of business players to enter the international market, their interest, commitment, resource readiness, and capital.
Yanita further said that the program involves workshops and mentoring by experts. In addition, participants are given intensive mentoring for each commodity as well as support to determine ways to enter the international market by participating in exhibitions.
The workshops cover topics such as export marketing plans, product development, buyer identification and promotional plans, digital marketing, photography, product catalog creation, and exhibition preparations.
"OVOP Go Global covers four aspects, namely capacity building, rebranding, market entry, and expansion," she said.
She affirmed that the Ministry of Industry is continuing to boost the skills of small and medium industry players by providing technical guidance, mentoring, and certification.
